Pray Until Something Happens - 07/15/2017

I recently finished a great bible study on prayer. I don't know about you but that is an area of my walk that I would like to see better results. Now, I can pray for you and others so much easier than I can for myself. Truth be told, I'm actually not very good about asking for prayer either.  In the past several years I have seen healings, lives changed, hearts mended and relationships restored, so I know prayer works. I have confidence in praying for others, but when the rubber meets the road, my personal prayer life needs a tune up. How's your prayer life?

Matthew 21:22 tells us "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." We are instructed to ask for everything in Jesus' name. I think part of our problem is our "Believer" is broke. Do we really believe the Bible? Maybe we are like the father of the epileptic mute boy.  The disciples had been healing people but when they try to heal this young boy, the spirit throws him into convulsions, he gnashes his teeth and begins foaming at the mouth. I have seen seizures first hand, they are scary.  Look at what Jesus says to his disciples, "You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.” So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” “From childhood,” he answered. “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” “‘If you can?" said Jesus Everything is possible for one who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

Don't miss what Jesus said to the father and the disciples
Everything is possible for one who believes.

Jesus spoke to the spirit ~ "he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.” Jesus wants us to be his hands and feet. Just like the disciples, we are called to pray for the sick.

Here's a few things that I have learned about praying:

  • What is your heart condition when you pray?
  • Prayer is communing with God, We can communicate and pray to God at all times.
  • Are you praying or complaining?
  • God already knows your situation, so we don't have to inform him of all the details
  • Our words produce life or death, be careful of the words you choose when you pray
  • God is not angry or even in a bad mood. He loves you like a good father loves his child
  • God knows what you need before you ask
  • Jesus has done his part, everything we need for this life is available to us "It's Finished!"
  • Praise, thank and bless God for who he is, then present your prayer in Jesus' name
  • God wants us to use our God given authority, God is waiting on us to speak to our problems, sickness and relational concerns
  • Believe God has moved on your behalf when you pray
  • God wants to work through us
  • He qualifies the unqualified, be bold, go for it!

This is about my first encounter that I had with Jesus when I was praying for a "sign".

God longs to be in a relationship with his children. How's your prayer life? Are you praying or complaining? It will impact your prayer life.

Ask and it will be given you; seek and you will find, and knock it shall be opened to you. Ask your good father in Jesus' name and believe.
